How to Give Stock
Give Stocks or Other Equities
Donating appreciated stock or other equities is an easy and tax-efficient way to support the Columbia Vantage Point Foundation. When you transfer stock directly to the Foundation, you can avoid capital gains tax on the appreciated value and may be eligible for a charitable income tax deduction equal to the fair market value at the time of liquidation. We receive all securities as equity gifts and liquidate them immediately upon transfer to ensure their full charitable value supports our mission.
To make a stock gift or receive transfer instructions, please contact: Rock Schuler, Development Director, at schulerr@vantagepointresidences.org or 301-455-5437
Qualified Charitable Distribution from an Individual Retirement Account
Give Through Your IRA (Qualified Charitable Distribution)
If you are age 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to our organization.
- A QCD counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you are age 73 or older.
- You may give up to $100,000 per year (or $200,000 for married couples filing jointly).
- Your gift is excluded from taxable income—a tax-efficient way to support our mission.
- The transfer must come directly from your IRA custodian to the charity (not to you first).
- Your gift MUST clear our bank account by December 31st of any given year, which means we must receive it well in advance of year’s end.
To initiate your gift, contact your IRA administrator and provide the following information (or write a check from your IRA account): Columbia Vantage Point Foundation; tax ID 52-1533715; mailing address: 5400 Vantage Point Road, Columbia, MD 21044.
Entrance Fee Refund Donations (one-time, annual, and/or legacy/estate)
Give Through Your Entrance Fee Refund
If your entrance contract includes a refundable amount, you can designate all or part of it as a gift to the Columbia Vantage Point Foundation—either now or later.
- Irrevocable Donation: A legally binding gift that may qualify for an immediate income tax deduction and help reduce your taxable estate.
- Revocable Donation: A flexible pledge you can change anytime during your lifetime; it becomes binding to your estate later and may reduce final income or estate taxes.
- You may make your entrance fee gift as an annual contribution or as part of your legacy and estate plans.
To learn more or begin your entrance fee gift, contact Rock Schuler, Development Director, at schulerr@vantagepointresidences.org or 301-455-5437

Planned gifts can be made during your lifetime or through your estate and may offer significant tax advantages. Common Legacy Giving Options (Representative list; not all-inclusive):

Real Property
Gifts of Real Property
You can make a lasting impact by donating real estate or other valued property—such as a home, land, or other high-value assets—to the Columbia Vantage Point Foundation. A gift of real property may qualify for a current charitable income tax deduction based on the property’s fair market value and can help you avoid capital gains taxes that would result from selling the asset outright. In some cases, you may also retain lifetime use of the property through a retained life estate arrangement. All property gifts are subject to prior review and acceptance by the Foundation to ensure alignment with our mission and legal requirements. Please consult your financial or tax advisor before proceeding with a property gift.

In-Kind Donations
In addition to financial gifts, you can support RVP through in-kind donations—gifts of goods, materials, or services that enhance life at the Residences at Vantage Point. These may include new furnishings, artwork, equipment, technology, or other items that improve residents’ comfort, engagement, or our shared spaces. All in-kind gifts are reviewed to ensure they meet current needs, safety standards, and space requirements. When accepted, they are acknowledged with a written receipt describing the donated items (without assigned monetary value, per IRS rules). Your thoughtful contributions help strengthen our community environment and enrich daily life for residents.
